Softball Swept in Road SAC Matchup at Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coker College softball team dropped a pair of road South Atlantic Conference games on Wednesday (Apr. 17) at Queens. The Cobras fell in game one 6-1 before losing the following game 9-5.

The Royals opened up the first game by plating the first six runs of the game to jump out in front. Coker managed to get one back in the sixth but could not make a comeback in the opener.

Maria Williamson and Allyson High both led the offense with a pair of hits while Brianna Strickland and Anna Gluhosky each added one hit. Christine Carver was hit with the loss after getting the start. Carver gave up three runs and struck out four in her three innings of work. Isabelle Mullen gave up a pair of runs and struck out two batters over two innings while Jordyn Goodman pitched one perfect inning. 

Queens jumped out to an early lead once again in game two with three runs in the first but the Cobras cut the deficit to just one with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. With difference just one run, the Royals errupted for five runs in the fifth to extend their lead and put the Cobras away. 

Madison King, Lauren DeWitt, Ashley Meckley, Chloe Pelham, Gluhosky, High, and Williamson all paced the Coker offense with one hit each. High and DeWitt both drove in two runs, with DeWitt blasting her third home run of the year. Taylor Forehand was credited with thhe loss after starting and pitching 4.1 innings. Forehand allowed three runs on three hits while striking out a pair of batters. Nikki Linthicum saw her first action of the day as she pitched 0.1 inning out of the bullpen and Carver came on for her second appearance of the day. Goodman would close it out once again, tossing the final 1.1 innings.

The Cobras will back at home for senior day on Saturday (Apr. 20) with first pitch set for 2:00 PM.
