Cobras Clipped by Catawba in Conference Play

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Coker College softball team, coming off of a sweep of then-ranked Lincoln Memorial, fell on the road to Catawba College in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday (Apr. 10).

Maria Williamson propelled the Cobras into the lead in the fourth inning as she hit a solo home run, her third of the season. The lead would not last long as the Indians plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to take their first lead of the day. Williamson and Allyson High led the Coker offense as they both recorded one hit, with Williamson driving in the lone run of the game.

Christine Carver was hit with the loss after getting the start and going four innings in the circle. Carver surrendered a pair of runs on five hits while striking out two batters. Taylor Forehand came on to pitch the final two innings and did not allow a hit while striking out a pair.

Game two saw the Cobras struggle to drive in runs once again. Outfielders Madison King and Alex Alverson accounted for five of the six Coker hits with King going 3-3 and Alervson 2-4. Chloe Pelham was the other Cobra to record a hit as she singled in the sixth.

Forehand got the nod in game two after coming on in relief in the opener and picked up the loss in four innings of work. Forehand allowed the lone run of the game but allowed just four hits. Isabelle Mullen was lights out in two no-hit innings out of the bullpend as she punched out three batters.

The Cobras will be back in action when they travel to Tusculum for another South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 13) starting at 2:00 PM.
