Cobras Explode For 19 Runs in Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College softball team picked up a 19-3 win over Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday (Mar. 20) as the second game of the doubleheader was halted due to rain.

The Cobras jumped out to an early lead after Chloe Pelham led off with a base-hit before Maria Williamson launched her first homerun of the season to give the Cobras the lead. After giving up three in the top of the second, Coker responded with five in the bottom half and never looked back. Madison King got it started with her first career homerun with a shot to right field and Ashley Meckley put the Cobras back in front with a two-RBI single to center. The final two runs of the inning would come off of RBI groundouts by Allyson High and Williamson. The third inning would see even more runs on the board for the Cobras as they put up nine runs in their half of the inning. Pelham and Williamson both drove in a pair of runs each with hits while High and Lauren DeWitt followed it up by driving in one run a piece. King put an emphasis on the inning when she lifted off on a ball to right field for her second big fly of the day and second of her career. The Cobras would add three more in the fourth, with one driven in by Williamson and the other two by Breanna Strickland to give the Cobras the 19-3 win over the preseason conference favorites.

Isabelle Mullen dazzled once again in the circle as she picked up her team-leading eighth win of the season. Mullen did not give up a single earned run while she gave up just four hits and struck out four in her five innings of work.

The Cobras will be back in action on Thursday (Mar. 21) when they host Mount Olive for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM.
