Softball Falls to Mars Hill in Conference Opener

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Coker College softball team dropped the first South Atlantic Conference series of the season on Saturday (Mar. 16) as they fell to Mars Hill 7-4 and 8-5. 

Anna Gluhosky, Chloe Pelham, Ashley Meckley, Allyson High, and Maria Williamson all tallied one hit in the opening game. Meckley also drove in a pair of runs to lead the Cobras offensively. Christine Carver was hit with the loss after going four innings and Jordyn Goodman came on in the sixth to pitch the final two innings.

The Coker offensive came alive in the second game as the Cobras doubled their hit total from game one as they recorded 10 hits as a team. Makayla Shore, Madison King, and Meckley all recorded two hits and an RBI. Breanna Strickland, Pelham, Williamson, and Gluhosky rounded out the day for the Cobras offensively. Taylor Forehand got the start in the circle and allowed five runs in her three innings before Goodman came on in relief for the second consecutive game. Goodman would get hit with the loss after allowing a pair of runs in one inning of work. Nikki Linthicum and Carver also tossed an inning of relief in game two.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 20) when they host Lenoir-Rhyne for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM.
