HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team kept it rolling on Tuesday (Mar. 12) as they swept UNC Pembroke and moved to 19-4 on the season.
The Cobras came out slow in game one and surrendered a run to the Braves in the first inning. After the first batters went down in order, the Coker bats came alive in the third inning as Anna Gluhosky led off with a single to center field and Chloe Pelham continued her hot start to her career with a double to right center. With runners on first and second and no outs, Allyson High ripped a single down the left field line to clear the bases and give the Cobras their first lead of the game. The Cobras tacked on another after Madison King reached on an error and stole second before being driven in by Gluhosky. High led off the sixth inning with a walk and Maria Williamson would later reach first on an error to put runners on first and second with one out. Rebekkah Addison and Katelyn Chambers both entered as pinch runners and Addison would come around to score as the UNC Pembroke third basemen threw a ball intended for second base into left field. Lauren DeWitt drove in the final run with a pinch-hit single up the middle to stretch the lead to four.
Christine Carver was excellent once again in the circle as she notched the win. Carver tossed five innings, giving up just two hits and striking out three. Jordyn Goodman earned her second save of the season after coming on in the sixth, allowing just one hit and striking out one in her two innings of work.
The Cobras flipped the script in game two as the Braves were the ones struggling to find hits early on. It was not until the third inning until Coker got on the board but Makayla Shore made it count as they drilled a pitch over the fence in left center to get the inning started. Breanna Strickland followed the homer with an infield single and advanced all the way to third on a stolen base and a throwing error by the catcher. After a Mindy North walk, Gluhosky drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center. Pelham come up next and laced a triple into right that drove in North. High kept the rally going with an RBI double and Williamson drove in High and Lilli Otten to stretch the lead to six. High came in clutch once again in the fifth as she drove in Pelham to make it 7-0. After surrendering a run in the top half of the inning, Pelham recorded her fourth hit of the day when she drove in Chambers and High drove in the final run with a single to center.
Isabelle Mullen moved to 7-0 this season after allowing just one hit over her five innings of work with four strikeout. Taylor Forehand came on for the final two innings and didn't allow a single hit, with the lone run allowed unearned.
The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 16) when they travel to Mars Hill for the first conference doubleheader of the season starting at 2:00 PM.
