Mullen Shines Once Again as Cobras Split Doubleheader With Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Coker College softball team split a doubleheader at Flagler College on Sunday (Feb. 17), falling in game one 7-1 before taking the second game 3-1.

Christine Carver got the nod in the circle, giving up just three hits and no runs in the first five innings. The Saints exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for the first time. Coker responded with one run in the top of the seventh thanks to an RBI sacrifice fly from Katelyn Chambers that scored Chloe Pelham but that would do it for the Cobras in game one. Pelham led the Cobras with two hits while Lilli Otten, Ashley Meckley, Madison King, and Chambers all recorded one hit.

The Cobras did not wait as long to get on the board in the second game as Maria Williamson drove in Meckley with an RBI single to left field. Williamson stepped up once again in the third inning and drove in Meckley and Pelham to give the Cobras a 3-0 lead. Flagler would grab one back in the fourth inning but the Saints were quiet for the most part thanks to solid performances by Isabelle Mullen and Taylor Forehand in the circle.

Mullen picked up her fifth win of the season after tossing five innings and giving up just one unearned runs with four strikeouts. Mullen has now thrown 26 innings this season while giving up just two total earned runs for an ERA of 0.52. Forehand came out of the bullpen to pick up the save, throwing two innings of one-hit ball and striking out three batters. Offensively, Williamson led the Cobras with two hits and three RBI while Hannah Goodman, Meckley, and Pelham each had one hit.

The Cobras will be back in action Thursday (Feb. 21) for a home non-conference doubleheader against Claflin starting at 1:00 PM.
