ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Coker College softball team completed the first day of the Old Coast Classic on Saturday (Feb. 16), falling to Flagler 5-1 and taking down Trinity Baptist College 14-0 in five innings.

The freshman duo of Jordyn Goodman and Chloe Pelham stole the show in the win over Trinity Baptist as both led the way for the Navy and Gold. In the circle Goodman was dominant, throwing a perfect game in just her second career college appearance. The freshman went five innings while not allowing a single runner to reach base and striking out four batters for the win. Pelham led the way offensively with three hits, four RBI, and two runs scored. The Cobras jumped out in front in the first inning after Allyson High knocked an RBI single into left field to score Ashley Meckley. Maria Williamson followed her up with a double to plate High and two batters later Pelham ripped a triple into center for a pair of RBI. Brianna Strickland rounded out the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double. The Cobras would tack on three more after Anna Gluhosky scored on a wild pitch while Mindy North and Pelham each had RBI singles. Coker rallied for six more runs in the third thanks to RBI singles from Rebekah Addison, High, Strickland, North, and Gluhosky extend the lead to 14 runs.

They found themselves in a pitcher's duel in the matchup with Flagler and Taylor Forehand started strong for Coker, giving up just two hits and no runs over the first four innings. The Saints opened the scoring in the fourth with four unearned runs to take the first lead of the games. Coker responded in the fifth after North drove in Strickland with an RBI single but that would be the only run of the game as the Cobras fell 5-1.

Forehand picked up the loss after giving up a pair of unearned runs and striking out four. Christine Carver pitched two innings, giving up one earned run and striking out one batter.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 17) when they take on Flagler in a doubleheader starting at 11:00 AM.
