Cobras Square Off with Eagles in Weekend Conference Series

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College softball team will battle a South Atlantic Conference opponent for the second time in four days when the Carson-Newman Eagles make their way to town on Friday, April 6.

Maria Williamson continues to lead the Cobras on the offensive side with 52 hits, eight home runs, 39 RBIs, and 17 walks on a .441/.500/.678 slashline. Hannah Price is having a solid season as well with 33 hits, 13 runs, five doubles, two home runs, 21 RBIs, and 12 walks with a .407 slugging percentage. Anna Gluhosky has been thriving since being moved to the leadoff spot. She now has 30 hits, three doubles, two triples, one home run, 16 RBIs, 16 walks, and two stolen bases.

Christine Carver (13-6, 2.03 ERA) is heading up the pitching staff through 114 innings pitched in 21 appearances with 11 complete games. She has given up 85 hits, 33 earned runs, and 89 strikeouts. Taylor Forehand (5-4, 2.93 ERA) is picking up steam as of late. In 55 innings, she has only given up 51 hits, 23 earned runs, 18 walks, and 44 strikeouts.

As of April 3, the Navy and Gold rank third in the conference in stolen bases per game at 1.34. Individually, Williamson claims six top-four conference statistics: first in total bases (80), second in RBIs (39), second in home runs (8), second in hits (52, eighth nationally), third in RBIs per game (1.03), and fourth in batting average (.441). Forehand has three saves on the season, good for the top spot in the SAC. Carver is first in conference strikeout-to-walk ratio at 3.30 and third in hits allowed per seven innings at 5.22.

The Eagles come into the contest with a 2.77 ERA, giving up 205 hits, 113 runs, 91 walks, while striking out 116 times in 240 innings of action.

Game one is set for a 2:00 p.m. start, with the gates of Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field opening at 1:00 p.m. Game two will begin at approximately 4:00 p.m.
