Cobras Host No. 19 Royals in SAC Action

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College softball team (24-12) brings in South Atlantic Conference opponent, No. 19 Queens University of Charlotte Royals, for a mid-week matchup on Tuesday, April 3. The Cobras are coming off of a sweep of non-conference opponent Chowan on Saturday, March 31, scoring 21 runs in the two games.

Maria Williamson leads the Navy and Gold with 49 hits, followed by Cacey Simmons (35), Hannah Price (31), and Anna Gluhosky (30). Price and Simmons have the team-high five doubles, with Simmons and Gluhosky having two triples each. Williamson has seven home runs and Simmons is close behind with four. The two also lead the Cobras in RBIs with 36 and 28, respectively. Simmons has reached double-digit steals to top the charts, collecting 11 thus far.

Christine Carver heads up the pitching staff with 13 wins in 114 innings pitched, striking out 89 at a 2.03 ERA. Forehand leads with two saves, alongside a 2.55 ERA in 46.2 innings of action

As of March 29, the Cobras are third in the SAC with a 2.05 strikeout-to-walk pitching ratio. Individually, Williamson ranks first in the conference with 47 hits (11th nationally), second in home runs (7), RBIs (33), and total bases (71), and fourth in batting average at .443. Simmons claims third in the SAC in with three sacrifice flies, tied third with two triples, and fifth with 28 RBIs. Gluhosky is tied third with Simmons at two triples. Forehand is third in the conference with two saves. Carver is first in the SAC with a 3.30 strikeout-to-walk pitching ratio, second with 13 victories, and third with 89 strikeouts.

The Royals (29-7, 6-4 SAC) come into the game batting .311 with a collective 2.76 ERA amongst their three pitchers. The team has 305 hits and scored 254 runs, while giving up 230 hits, 125 runs, walked 88, and hit 23 batters.

Game one is set for a 1:00 p.m. start, with the gates of Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field opening at 12:00 p.m. Game two will begin at approximately 3:00 p.m.
