Cobras Drop Conference Opener to Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C.- The Coker College softball team headed northwest to face Anderson University for both teams' conference opener. The Cobras lost two close ones to the Trojans, 3-2 (10) and 2-0.

Game One

This game was at its core a pitching battle. No runs were scored until the 10th inning, with only six hits collectively going into the inning.

With Madison King placed on second to begin the inning, Maria Williamson homered to left center field to give the Cobras the momentary 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning. The Trojans walked in a run and then hit a two RBI single to right center field for the walk-off.

Anna Gluhosky lead the offense going 2-for-4 in game one.

Christine Carver (11-4, 1.62 ERA) pitched an outstanding game, winding up with a loss. She struck out 10 batters, gave up five walks, three hits, and two earned runs through nine innings pitched.

Game Two

Anderson held Coker scoreless in the second game on just one hit from both Alex Alverson and Makayla Shore. Williamson, Gluhosky, and Hannah Goodman each reached base on a walk. The Trojans scored a run in the second and sixth inning for the win.

Taylor Forehand (2-1, 0.93 ERA) had a solid outing in the loss, finishing with five strikeouts, handing out two walks, allowing five hits, and giving up one earned run.

The Navy and Gold will continue their roadtrip on Sunday (Mar. 18) at Georgia College in non-conference action. First pitch against the Bobcats is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
