TIGERVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College softball team traveled to the Upstate to battle the North Greenville Crusaders on Thursday (Mar. 15) afternoon. The Navy and Gold split the series, dropping game one 5-1, and winning game two by the same score.
Game One
The Cobras fell behind early, down 5-0 after the third inning. The lone Cobra run crossed the plate in the top of the fourth. Anna Gluhosky earned a walk with Hannah Goodman moving her to second after being hit by a pitch. Allyson High caused Gluhosky to score when she reached on a throwing error by the shortstop.
Hannah Price went 3-for-4 in game one, garnering three of the five hits in the game for Coker.
Game Two
The Navy and Gold came out with a vengeance and looking to avenge their earlier loss.
Maria Williamson reached on a fielder's choice to the first basemen and was moved over by a single up the middle from Brianna Strickland. Goodman was hit by another pitch to load the bases. Hannah Price drew a walk to score Williamson
In the top of the third, Madison King doubled down the left field line. Strickland score King after reaching on a fielding error by the shortstop, advancing to second on the throw. Goodman singled to left center field to bring Strickland home on her third RBI of the season.
The Crusader put their run across on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the third inning.
Coker scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory. Mindy North garnered a walk to open the inning. Cacey Simmons reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, moving to second, with North going to third. King singled to left field for two RBI, scoring Simmons and North.
Taylor Forehand (2-0, 0.78 ERA) made her return to the mound in dominating fashion. The junior limited North Greenville to just one hit in four innings, while striking out five. Out of 45 pitches, 35 were strikes.
The Navy and Gold will return to the Upstate on Saturday (Mar. 17) to clash with their first SAC opponent of the season, the Anderson University Trojans. First pitch of game one will be thrown at 2:00 p.m.
