Coker Takes Day Two of Captain D's Surf 'N Turf Classic, Defeat No. 2 North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga.- The Cobras once again took on the Flagler Saints and No. 2 North Georgia Nighthawks at the Captain D's Surf 'N Turf Classic. The Navy and Gold won both games: 2-1 over the Saints and 3-2 against the Nighthawks.

Game One

The Cobras and Saints were scoreless until the bottom of the sixth.

Kelsi Bachmann led off the scoring series by doubling down the left field line. Madison King followed that up with a walk. Hannah Price made it count with her double to left center, scoring both Bachmann and King.

Flagler attempted the comeback, managing a sacrifice fly, but fell short.

Christine Carver (9-1, 1.17 ERA) earned the complete game victory, giving up one earned run and five hits, while striking out five batters.

Game Two

The Nighthawks brought in a 23-0 record into the game with the Cobras and the No. 2 ranking in the country. Coker handed North Georgia their first loss of the season.

The scoring began in the top of the fifth. Brianna Strickland doubled to left field, scoring Anna Gluhosky. She started with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Makayla Shore, and to third on a passed ball. Bachmann reached on an error by the third baseman and advanced to second. This series score Strickland. Cacey Simmons singled, but was thrown out at second, allowing Bachmann to score.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Nighthawks closed the gap with a two-run shot to left center, but could not add another to tie.

Carver (10-1, 1.25 ERA) once again pitched a complete game, the second of the day. Out of the first seven batters, four were struckout. She finished with 12 in the game. Carver gave up two earned run, three hits, and two walks alongside her double-digit strikeouts.

The Navy and Gold take the field on Tuesday (March 6) at Limestone, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
