Cobras Overpower Warriors in Sweep

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker College battled the Southern Wesleyan Warriors in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon. The Cobras thrashed the visitors 6-1 in game one and run-ruled the Warriors 10-2 in five innings during the second game.

Maria Williamson provided the offensive spark for the Navy and Gold, leading the team with three runs, five hits, two doubles, and three runs batted in. Through the two games, Williamson accumulated an impressive .714 batting average.

Allyson High provided a consistent line with two runs, two hits, and two RBI. Makayla Shore also added two RBI to the Cobra effort. Mindy North stole two bases to lead the team while crossing home plate twice in the wins. Courtney Boan and Madison King contributed a stolen base each. Kelsi Bachmann earned a team-high two walks with Hannah Price drawing one as well.

Christine Carver picked up the game one victory. She pitched six innings, giving up five hits, one run, and two walks, while striking out five batters. Carver now has a 1.17 earned run average. Nikki Linthicum pitched an inning in relief, walking one Warrior and striking out another. Taylor Forehand earned the latter game win, tossing every pitch. In the five innings, she yielded two hits, resulting in two runs (one earned) and five walks. She also finished with three strikeouts on her way to a 1.40 ERA.

The Cobras totaled 16 runs, 15 hits, six doubles, and 14 RBI. They batted at a .278 average, reached base at a .350 rate, and slugged at a .389 percentage. The pitchers, combined, have a 1.17 ERA and batters hit .159 against them.

Coker will next face the Lander Bearcats in another home series. The games are scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 7) at 1 and 3 p.m.
