Coker Softball Provides Holiday Cheer for Hartsville Family

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The holidays aren't just a time for receiving, but for giving as well. Rather than participating in their annual gift exchange among teammates, the Coker College softball team decided to adopt a local Hartsville family this holiday season.

"We decided as a team that instead of getting each other a gift this year, that we would give Christmas to a family who might not have the opportunity to do so," stated head softball coach Travis McCall

The Cobras adopted a family that has six children. Often times, it can be difficult for families with five to six children to get adopted during the holidays. Many people prefer to adopt smaller families, so the Coker softball team decided to step up to the plate and provide some holiday cheer for the family.

Members of the team purchased gifts from each child's wish list and delivered the presents to the family on December 10.

"I'm really proud of the team for embracing this opportunity to make an impact here in Hartsville," said McCall. "Delivering the gifts as a team is something that had a lasting impact on the family and our team. I know one of our players had one of the kids in her class at school, so that was really cool for her to see the reaction of the kid when he opened his gifts. It's important for us to realize how fortunate we are and that we have an opportunity to give back!"
