HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Cassandra "Cassie" Moore has joined the Coker Cobras softball coaching staff as announced by Dr. Lynn Griffin, vice president of athletics and athletic facilities.

"I'm very excited to have Cassandra as an addition to our coaching staff," said Head Softball Coach Travis McCall. "Her knowledge of the game and experience will be a great asset to our team and our athletic department here at Coker."

Moore attended fellow South Atlantic Conference member Mars Hill University, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. While there, she played on the softball team for two seasons, one as a captain, before her career was cut short by multiple injuries. Moore is continuing her education by pursuing her Master of Arts in Liberal Arts-Literary Arts from Fort Hays State University and will graduate in December 2017.

After her time at Mars Hill, Moore joined the AmeriCorps VISTA where she completed projects across North Carolina, focusing on food security, economic opportunity, and K-12 education. She helped support civic engagement by connecting community organizations with campus resources. Moore also played a part in reviving a once-dormant Service Club. Due to her effort in increasing co-curricular service by 152%, she was the only one of 28 VISTAs who was hired by her placement site, Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina.

As a VISTA alumnus, CPCC hired her as Service-Learning Coordinator for five years. During that time, she helped coordinate events such as tree planting and MLK service days. Moore was lead supervisor for the America Reads program with 20 tutors placed with at-risk Charlotte schools. The annual service increased by 20% over a five-year span (25K-30K) and she published "target audience" perennial marketing handouts as well as other departmental newsletters and annual reports.

Her high school career happened at Northwestern Senior High School in Albion, Pennsylvania. Moore was a part of the PIAA Western Finalist (State Championship Final Four) softball team in 2002. She was named first-team All-Erie County for her performance in the outfield in 2002 and 2003. Moore was a four-year varsity letter winner in softball and basketball. During her senior year in 2003, she was a captain in both sports and earned the Mel Witherspoon Sportsmanship Award. Moore also earned multiple academic scholarships.

Moore's coaching career began in a volunteer capacity at Myers Park Trinity Little League in Charlotte from 2009-2012. She has also volunteered as an assistant pitching coach for the Genesee Storm Travel team from Batavia, New York in 2014 and the Carolina Fire from Charleston, South Carolina in 2015.

Her first coaching position was with Cuthbertson High School in Waxhaw, N.C. as a varsity assistant and head junior varsity coach. In her three years, she was responsible for the pitching staff and working with hitters, seven of which went on to play in DI, DII, DIII, or NAIA colleges. The Cavaliers were the 2013 Rocky River Conference Champions and finished their season in the Elite Eight of the NCHSAA softball state playoffs.

She was then hired at Genesee Community College in Batavia, N.Y. as the Head Softball Coach and Recruitment Specialist. The Cougars won their first conference championship (WNYAC) in school history under Moore's tutelage, had the first All-American athlete selected, and won Coach of the Year, all in the 2015 season. The team also was the regional championship runner-up, ranked second in NJCAA DIII for batting average against, and won the Genesee Athletics "Quantum Leap" Award for being the most improved sports team. Moore coached 11 all-conference and three all-region selections in her tenure.

Moore's mid-year appointment as Head Softball Coach at Newburry College near Boston, Massachusetts was her next step. She was responsible for administrative tasks and budgets of the previous coach, as well as supervision of assistant coaches and academic monitoring.

Her last stop before joining the Cobras was at the BASH Sports Academy in Chicago, Illinois as a softball coach. Moore taught individual and small group lessons of pitching, hitting, and defense for ages 8-18. She also led clinics and camps for BASH and community organizations. There was record attendance for spring pitching camps and it was reported that participants had increased control, speed, and strikeouts.

"I am thrilled to be working at Coker alongside Coach McCall," stated Moore. "I look forward to developing the pitching staff and continuing the success of an already strong softball program."

Moore is a yoga instructor, gaining her certification in November 2011. She is also a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Member since 2013 and Amateur Softball Association (renamed USA Softball in January 2017) Coach/Member since 2015.
