Softball Places Ten on Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Team

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team placed ten of its members on the Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete Team for the 2017 season. Rebekah Addison, Tabitha Allen, Carley Bailey, Katelyn Chambers, Taylor Forehand, Anna Gluhosky, Hannah Goodman, Augusta Jackson, Cacey Simmons, and Maria Williamson represented the Navy and Gold on the team.

Any athlete who achieves a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale is recognized as an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete.

"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes for excelling in the classroom," said head softball coach Travis McCall. "Their work ethic on and off the field shows they want to be successful in not only softball, but their academics as well."

Rebekah Addison will be heading into her junior season and is a native of Rock Hill, S.C. The Physical Education major appeared in seven games this season, scoring one run. In her freshman campaign, Addison collected one hit and scored two runs.

Tabitha Allen recently graduated with a degree in Early Education. The Williamston, S.C. native appeared in 16 games during the 2017 season, recording a 6-3 record and six saves. She struck out 24 batters in 36.2 innings, while notching a 2.67 ERA.

Carley Bailey recently graduated with a degree in Mathematics. The Lancaster, S.C. native appeared in just one game this past season due to injury.  In her Coker career, Bailey has scored 45 runs, tallied 81 hits, and has knocked in 33 RBI.

Katelyn Chambers will be heading into her junior season and is a native of Summerville, S.C. The Computer Science and Mathematics major appeared in 25 games during the 2017 season, recording two hits and one RBI in two at-bats. 

Taylor Forehand, a rising junior, majors in Mathematics and Science. The New Bern, N.C. native had an excellent sophomore season, posting a 13-3 record in the circle. She struck out 97 batters in 128.2 innings. Her 2.07 ERA was the fifth-lowest in the conference, earning her a spot on the honorable mention All-SAC team. Her season was highlighted by not dropping a decision from Feb. 18 until Apr. 11. She also won the Female Breakthrough Player of the Year at Coker's FANG Awards, along with being named AstroTurf SAC Pitcher of the Week on Apr. 11.

Anna Gluhosky, a Biology major, recently completed her freshman campaign with the Navy and Gold. The Summerville, S.C. native appeared in 38 games and drew 78 at-bats. She recorded 11 hits, scored 18 runs, plated six RBI, and belted four doubles.

Hannah Goodman will be heading into her sophomore season and is a native of Arbutus, Md. The Criminology major appeared in 46 games behind the plate, batting .277. She finished with 26 hits, 18 runs scored, 14 RBI, four doubles, and one home run.

Augusta Jackson, an Education and Coaching major, recently completed her sophomore campaign with the Cobras. Jackson batted .306 in 2017, recording 19 hits, 10 runs scored, six RBI, four doubles, and two home runs. In the circle, Jackson appeared in 15 games, posting an 8-3 record and a 1.89 ERA.

Cacey Simmons heads into her senior season with Coker and is from Dover, Fla. The Biology major played in 52 games during her first season with the Cobras. She batted .315, with 47 hits, 40 runs scored, 32 RBI and a South Atlantic Conference-high six triples. She also stole 15 bases, only being caught three times. She was an honorable mention All-SAC selection and was a member of the SAC All-Tournament team.

Maria Williamson, an Education major, recently completed her sophomore campaign for the Navy and Gold. Williamson had a breakout season for the Cobras in 2017, starting in all 58 games for Coker, drawing a team-high 191 at-bats. She finished with a .356 batting average, 68 hits, 58 RBI, 30 runs, 15 home runs, and 13 doubles. Williamson ranked in the top-25 in NCAA DII in home runs, RBI, and total bases with 128. She was a second team All-South Atlantic Conference selection, leading the SAC in both home runs and RBI.
