Cobras Fall to Carson-Newman in SAC Tournament Championship Game; Finish as Tournament Runner-Up

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team fell to the Carson-Newman University Eagles on championship Sunday (Apr. 30) at the South Atlantic Conference Tournament by a score of 2-0.

Carson-Newman used runs in the second and fourth innings, while the Cobras could only notch two hits in the loss. Coker had runners in scoring position in the second, third and seventh innings, however the Cobras could not come up with the hit to push a run across.

Maria Williamson and Cacey Simmons slashed both the hits for the Navy and Gold, each going 1-for-3 at the plate.

In the circle, Augusta Jackson allowed two runs on six hits in 3.1 innings. Christine Carver came on in relief, allowing just one hit in 2.2 innings of work.

With 41 wins, the Coker softball program has its first 40-win season since the 2002 season. The Cobras will now wait to see if they earn at at-large bid into the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament. Selection show is scheduled for May 8.
