Cobras Welcome Wolves For Final Regular Season Home Doubleheader

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team (35-13, 11-5 SAC) will take the Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field for the final time in the 2017 season on Wednesday, (Apr. 19) to take on the visiting Newberry College Wolves in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. Game times are set for 2 and 4 p.m., with live stats and broadcast available at www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras, who currently sit in the No. 3 spot in the SAC standings, have a 19-5 record at home, winning five of their last seven at the friendly confines.

The duo of Maria Williamson and Tayler Barcomb continue to lead the way for the Cobras on the offensive end. Williamson ranks second in the SAC with 12 home runs and ranks fifth with 47 RBI. Barcomb, who also ranks fifth with 47 RBI, is third in the SAC with 17 doubles on the season. Both players also rank in the top ten in total hits, Williamson with 58 (6th) and Barcomb with 54 (10th).

In the circle, Augusta Jackson ranks second in the SAC with a 1.48 ERA, while Christine Carver and Taylor Forehand rank fifth and sixth with ERAs just under two. Nikki Linthicum leads the SAC with four saves on the season, to go along with six wins.

Newberry comes in with a 27-14 overall record and a 10-6 mark in SAC play. Offensively, the Wolves are led by Haley Simonds. She has a .387 batting average, to go along with 40 RBI and eight home runs. In the circle, Devon Morrison's 16 wins on the season are the third-most in the SAC.

Game one is set for a 2 p.m. start, with the gates of Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field opening at 1 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
