Cobras Split Doubleheader with No. 22 Saints
The Cobras went 1-1 on Sunday against No. 22 Limestone College.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team went 1-1 on Sunday (Mar. 26) in a non-conference doubleheader against the No. 22 nationally-ranked Limestone College Saints. The Saints won game one by a score of 4-0. The Cobras responded with a 5-1 win in game two.
In game one, the Saints used runs in the first, fifth and seventh innings to pick up the 4-0 win. The best chances for the Cobras came in the sixth and seventh innings, when they had runners in scoring position in both innings, but could not capitalize.
Maria Williamson led the way with two hits in game one, while Kelsi Bachmann, Hannah Price and Allyson High all recorded hits in the opener.
Christine Carver was hit with the loss. She allowed three earned runs in five innings. In relief, Nikki Linthicum allowed one run on four hits in two innings.
In game two, it was the Cobras jumping out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning. After reaching on a bunt, Kelsi Bachmann scored all the way from first on a sac bunt by Cacey Simmons, after a Limestone throwing error. The Saints rebounded in the third inning with a run of their own, tying the game up at 1-1. After back-to-back singles in the bottom of the fourth inning, Simmons advanced to third after a flyout by Tayler Barcomb. With runners on the corners, Hannah Price lifted a fly ball to right field, scoring Simmons and giving Coker the 2-1 lead. After a walk by Mindy North, High singled through the right side, scoring Katelyn Chambers and pushing the lead to 3-1. Courtney Boan dug into the box next and slashed a single to second base, scoring North and making it a 4-1 lead for the Cobras. Anna Gluhosky capped off the inning with an RBI single, scoring High and leaving the Navy and Gold ahead 5-1. The Saints could only manage one hit in final three innings, leaving the Cobras victorious in game two, 5-1.
Simmons finished 2-for-2 in game two, scoring one run. Bachmann, Williamson, Price, North, High, Boan and Gluhosky all recorded hits in in the win, with Price, High, Boan and Gluhosky all picking up RBI.
Taylor Forehand stole the show in the circle, allowing just one run on two hits in a complete game effort, striking out eight batters. She improved to 7-1 on the season.
The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Mar. 28) when they travel to Catawba for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.
