Cobras Move to 9-1 With Sweep Over Converse

DUNCAN, S.C. – The Coker College softball team picked up a pair of non-conference wins over the Converse College Valkyries on Saturday (Feb. 18) afternoon. The Cobras earned an 8-0 win in game one, with Coker taking an 8-4 win in nine innings in game two.

In game one, the Cobras scored three runs in the third and three runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Allyson High. The Navy and Gold added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take the 8-0 win in the opener.

Tayler Barcomb recorded a multi-hit game in game one, going 2-for-4. High finished with one hit and two RBIs. Hannah Goodman, Christine Carver, Maria Williamson and Anna Gluhosky all collected hits as well.

Carver moved to 4-0 on the season, allowing just one hit in four innings, while striking out five. Nikki Linthicum came on in relief, allowing no base runners in three innings, while striking out five also.

In game two, Coker plated three runs in the first four innings, however, it was Converse responding with three runs of its own to tie the game up at 3-3. Coker added another runs in the fifth, with Converse adding another run in the sixth, sending game two to extra inning. After a scoreless eighth inning, base hits by High, Mindy North and Gluhosky plated four runs for the Cobras, leading them to a 8-4 win in extra innings.

Williamson and Courtney Boan had multi-hit games in game two. Boan finished game two going 3-for-4, while Williamson collected two hits and an RBI. North finished with one hit and two RBIs, while Gluhosky, Barcomb, Hannah Price, High and Goodman all collected hits.

Linthicum picked up her first win of the season, allowing just one hit in two innings of relief.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 19) to host the visiting Columbia College Koalas in a non-conference doubleheader. Opening pitch is set for 1 and 3 p.m. at Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field.
