Cobras Split SAC Twinbill Against Newberry

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team split their South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday (Apr. 14) against the visiting Newberry College Wolves. The Wolves took game one 6-3 in eight innings. The Cobras overcame the extra inning game one loss to win game two convincingly 12-4 in six innings.

In game one, the Cobras plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh innings to knot things up a 2-2 and send the game to extra innings. The Wolves would score four in the eighth and that would be the difference in the 6-3 Newberry win. Tyresha Ellis went 1-for-3 and picked up the two RBIs in the seventh inning. Katelyn Szupello and Corrine Stiles went 2-for-3, while Ashley Gallman finished the game 2-for-4.

In game two, six-run innings by the Cobras in the third and sixth inning would propel them to the 12-4 victory. Riley Morris led the way going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Tayler Barcomb also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Stiles plated two RBIs while going 1-for-3. Ellis went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Gallman and Ashlee Ellen each had a hit and knocked in a RBI. Szupello had another multi-hit game, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Jill Lewis also picked up an RBI.

Tabitha Allen was hit with the loss in game one. She gave up five earned runs on 12 hits in eight innings of work. Brittany Long picked up the win in game two. She went four and two-thirds innings, scattering seven hits and three earned runs.

The Cobras will be back in action on Thursday (Apr. 16) for a non-conference doubleheader at home against the visiting St. Andrews University Knights. Game one is set for a 3 p.m. start.
