Cobras Split SAC Doubleheader Against Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Coker College softball team (22-21)went 1-1 on Sunday (Apr. 12) in their South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on the road against Mars Hill University. The Cobras picked up an 8-5 victory in game one, the Lions then won game two 9-1. 

In game one, the Cobras made a furious comeback in the seventh inning plating six runs leading to the 8-5 come from behind win. Corrine Stiles led that seventh inning charge with a two-out grand slam. Stiles finished the game 1-for-4 with four RBIs. Riley Morris belted a two-run home run in the third inning while also going 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Katelyn Szupello and Hannah Price each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Ashley Gallman also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run. 

In game two, the Lions scored six runs in the first two innings on their way to the 9-1 victory. Morris, along with Megan Strickland and Tyresha Ellis went 1-for-2. Ellis plated the lone RBI. 

Tabitha Allen (14-13) notched her 14th win of the season in game one. She threw a complete game, scattering four earned runs on eight hits. Brittany Long (8-6) was hit with the loss in game two. She gave up four earned runs on two hits in an inning and a third. 

The Cobras will be back at home on Tuesday (Apr. 14) for a SAC doubleheader against the Newberry College Wolves. Game one is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Saleeby-Stokes softball field
