HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team picked up a clean two-game sweep on Wednesday (Apr. 8) over the visiting Wingate University Bulldogs in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. The Cobras (21-18) took a tightly contested game one by a score of 4-3. Coker then turned around to win game two 9-5, improving to 7-5 in conference play.

In game one, a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning by Tayler Barcomb would be the charge the Cobras needed to pick up the nail biting 4-3 win. Barcomb finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Riley Morris was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, while Carley Bailey went 1-for-2 and drove in the other Coker RBI.

In game two, the Coker offense exploded for nine runs in the first four innings, leading to the eventual 9-5 victory. Katelyn Szupello finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Ashlee Ellen, Barcomb and Bailey also had multi-hit performances. Ellen went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a RBI and two runs scored. Barcomb went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a RBI and Bailey had three RBIs on a bases clearing triple in third inning. She went 2-for-3.

Tabitha Allen (13-12) earned the win in both games. In game one, she tossed a complete game, scattering seven hits and giving up three runs. In game two, she also went all seven innings, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits.

The Cobras will hit the road this weekend for a pair of SAC doubleheaders. They will face the Tusculum College Pioneers on Saturday (Apr. 11). First pitch is slated for 2 and 4 p.m.
