Coker Softball Takes Two Against Crusaders

BELMONT, N.C. – The Coker College softball picked up a non-conference sweep on Thursday (Mar. 26) over the Belmont Abbey Crusaders. The Cobras took game one by a score of 7-1, then turned around to score a win in game two 7-6.

In game one, the Navy and Yellow plated six runs in the final two innings to take the eventual 7-1 win. Tayler Barcomb led the way with a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning. Riley Morris plated two RBIs while going 1-for-3. Katelyn Szupello went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Carley Bailey and Ashlee Ellen each had two hits and Ashley Gallman also picked up an RBI.

In game two, it was five runs through the first three innings that propelled the Cobras to the one run, 7-6, victory. This time it was Megan Strickland leading the way going 3-for-4 at the plate with a run and an RBI. Szupello and Barcomb had multi-hit games while picking up an RBI each.

Tabitha Allen (11-10) notched the win in game one. She scattered eight hits and only gave up a run in seven innings of work. Brittany Long (8-2) was awarded the win in game two. She gave up three earned runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Mar. 31) for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader against the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears. Game one is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
