Coker Splits SAC Doubleheader with LMU

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team split Saturday's (Mar. 21) South Atlantic Conference doubleheader against the visiting Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters. The Cobras took game one 3-0, then dropped game two 8-4.

In game one, a three-run second inning would be all the Navy and Yellow needed to take the eventual 3-0 victory. Tyresha Ellis led the offensive charge going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Riley Morris also picked up a pair of hits going 2-for-3. Megan Strickland plated the other RBI. Ashley Gallman and Tayler Barcomb each went 1-for-3.

In game two, both teams would trade runs throughout the first five innings. However, a five-run sixth inning by LMU would be the difference and lead to the 8-4 victory for the Railsplitters. Morris had another multi-hit game; she went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Barcomb, along with Ashlee Ellen and Carley Bailey went 2-for-4. Ellen and Bailey each had an RBI.

Brittany Long (6-2) threw a complete game shutout in game one. She gave up four hits while striking out four batters. Tabitha Allen (10-9) suffered the loss in game two. She gave up six earned runs in seven innings of work.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 25) for a SAC doubleheader against the Queens University of Charlotte Royals at home. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
