Offensive Outburst Leads Coker to Sweep of St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. – It was a Sunday (Mar. 8) sweep for the Coker College softball team as they picked up two convincing road wins over the St. Andrews University Knights. Coker took game one 8-0, then turned around to take game two 16-6. 

In game one, five Cobras had multi-hit games. Tyresha Ellis led the charge going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Riley Morris, Ashlee Ellen and Corrine Stiles also went 2-for-3. Morris had a triple and an RBI. Katelyn Szupello also plated an RBI while going 2-for-4. Ashley Gallman, Tayler Barcomb and Megan Strickland had an RBI each as well. 

In game two, the Navy and Yellow remained hot at the dish. This time it was Morris who was the offensive catalyst. She went a perfect 3-for-3, belted two home runs, a double and picked up five RBIs. GallmanBarcomb, Ellis and Szupello had two RBIs. Gallman had three hits, while the other three had two hits apiece. Ellen and Stiles also had an RBI each. 

Tabitha Allen (6-6) picked up the win in game one. She threw a complete game three-hit shutout. Brittany Long (4-1) earned the win in game two. She gave two runs on five hits over five and two-thirds innings. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Mar. 10) as they travel to Johnson C. Smith University for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch slated for 1 p.m.
