Cobras and Braves Split Non-Conference Twinbill

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Coker College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 7) against the UNC Pembroke Braves. The Braves took game one 6-5 in extra innings. The Cobras came back to take game two 5-3.

In game one, each team plated four runs in the second inning and a run in the fourth inning and were tied up at 5-5 after seven innings. An RBI double by UNC Pembroke in the bottom half of the eighth inning would finish the game and the Braves would take the extra innings win 6-5.

Tayler Barcomb went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, a double and a home run. Riley Morris also belted a home run while going 2-for-4 and plating two RBIs. Ashlee Ellen also went 2-for-4 at the dish.

In game two, the Braves held a 3-1 lead after four innings. Ellen picked up an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to cut into the Braves lead. RBIs by Hannah Price and Morris in the top of the sixth gave the Cobras lead and the eventual 5-3 victory.

Hannah Price, Ellen, Barcomb and Morris all tabbed a RBI in game two. Morris and Barcomb once again had multi-hit games. Ashley Gallman also had a multi-hit game, going 3-for-4 and picking up a run.

Carley Bailey (0-2) suffered the loss in game one. She gave up a run on two hits in two and a thirds innings. Tabitha Allen (5-6) picked up the win in game two. She threw a complete game, gave up three unearned runs on four hits.

The Navy and Yellow will continue their road trip on Sunday (Mar. 8) with a doubleheader at St. Andrews University. Games are slated for 1 and 3 p.m.
