Cobras Split Twinbill with Golden Bears

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra softball team split its non-conference doubleheader with the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears on Monday (Mar. 2). The Golden Bears took game one 1-0, but the Cobras bounced back with an impressive 10-2 five inning victory in game two. 

Game one was a pitching dual, as a solo homer by West Virginia Tech proved to be the only run of the game.

Tabitha Allen (4-5) was tagged with the loss. She allowed just one run on six hits, while fanning 10 batters.

At the plate Tayler Barcomb had a pair of hits, while Jill Lewis and Carley Bailey were each 1-for-3.

In game two the Coker offense exploded for 10 runs on 13 hits in just five innings. Leading the way was Hannah Price with three hits including a home run and five RBIs. Riley Morris also had three hits, including a double with two RBIs and three runs scored. Ashley Gallman had a pair of hits and scored three runs, while Bailey had a double and drove in a run.

Brittany Long (2-1) earned with win in the circle. She tossed four and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 4) at home against North Greenville University in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one will begin at 1 p.m., followed by game two at 3 p.m.
