Coker Drops Non-Conference Doubleheader to Barton

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep on Saturday (Feb.  14) to the visiting Barton College Bulldogs.

Game one was a scoreless stalemate through the first five innings. The Bulldogs would score one in the top of the sixth inning and two in the seventh to secure the 3-0 shutout victory over Coker. Ashlee Ellen, Riley Morris and Katelyn Szupello all went 1-for-3, while Corrine Stiles went 1-for-2 for the Cobras.

In game two, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 after the first inning. A seven-run third inning would propel Barton to the eventual 12-4 victory. Stiles, along with classmate Ashley Gallman, each went 2-for-3. Ellen had a homerun and an RBI, while Hannah Price picked up two RBIs.

Tabitha Allen (2-3) would be hit with the loss in game one. She went all seven innings, gave up eight hits and fanned eight batters. Carley Bailey (0-1) would suffer the loss in game two. She gave up six runs in three and a third innings.

The Cobras will be back at home on Wednesday (Feb. 18) for a doubleheader against the Knights of St. Andrews University. Game one set to begin at 1 p.m. with game two immediately after at 3 p.m.
