Coker Softball Lands Three for 2015-16

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College head softball coach Travis McCall announced today that Taylor Brown, Katelyn Chambers and Augusta Jackson have agreed to play for the Cobras. All three will join the team in the fall of 2015.

Brown is an outfielder from Columbia, S.C., and hails from Blythewood High School. She is a member of the Bengals softball team and led them to region title her junior season while batting .350.

"Taylor is a young lady that came on our radar late," said McCall.  "She is extremely versatile and has great speed and quickness.  She will add depth to our outfield in all three positions. Offensively, she can really put pressure on the defense with her speed and adds a different look to our lineup.

Brown is the daughter of Donnie and Christy Brown. She plans on majoring in math education.

Chambers is an outfielder from Summerville, S.C. and she attends Ashley Ridge High School. She is a member of the Swamp Fox softball team where she batted .541 and was a High School Sports Report top 25 junior softball players to watch in 2014.

"Katelyn is an outstanding athlete with great instincts," said McCall. "Her ability to put pressure on the defense with her speed and aggressiveness will be a great addition to our lineup.  She reads the ball great in the outfield and will give us some much needed depth.  I'm really excited about the caliber of player and person we have in Katelyn."

She is the daughter of Bill and Brandi Chambers. She plans on double majoring in biology and chemistry.

Jackson is a pitcher/infielder from Kingsland, Ga., where she attends Camden County High School and is a member of the Heat Fastpitch team. She has helped guide the Heat to multiple championships, including the ISA World Series and the WFC World Series. Last season she had a 0.62 ERA, tossing 20 no-hitters and was named the MVP of both the WFC World Series and the SSAA State Championship.

According to McCall, "Augusta is an extremely hard worker with a hard-nosed approach that fits great into our style of play.  She has a great feel for all her pitches in the circle and has tremendous upside as a pitcher.  She will add depth to our staff and I expect her to come in and contribute right away. Defensively, Augusta will also be in the mix in the infield and add depth for us there.  Offensively, she can really swing it and I think she can come in and add some power to our lineup."

Jackson is the daughter of Jennifer and Greg Jackson. She plans on majoring in education while at Coker.
