Ellis Homers in Coker's DH Loss to Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Coker softball team dropped a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader to Newberry College on Wednesday (Apr. 16) at the Smith Road Complex.

Game number one was a defensive battle, with only one run scored in the second inning. Unfortunately for the Cobras, the run was scored by the Wolves which would be enough for the 1-0 game one victory.

Lauren Phillips (9-11) would be hit with the loss, after giving up one run on just two hits in six innings of work.

In game number two, Newberry jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings.  Coker would respond with one run in the top of the fourth, but the Wolves scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and tacked on three more runs in the fifth to capture the 9-1 win in five innings.

Tyresha Ellis was responsible for Cokers' lone run in game two, after a homerune to left center.

Tabitha Allen (4-7) would be marked with the loss, after giving up nine runs on ten hits in 4.2 innings.

Coker will return home this Saturday (Apr. 19) to host Anderson (S.C.) in their final home series of the season.  Game number one will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00.
