Cobras Fall in SAC DH against Tornados

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team dropped a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader to Brevard College on Saturday (Apr. 5).

Coker struck first in game number one with two runs in the first, but the Tornados responded with one run in the second, three in the third, and one more in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.  The Cobras would close the gap by scoring one run in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not produce the game tying run as Brevard would take it by a score of 5-4.

Tyresha Ellis led the Cobras in game number one with a homerun and and two RBI.  Sydney Weatherford was also a factor as she recorded a double and an RBI, while Carley Baily also drove in a runner.

Lauren Phillips (8-9) would be marked with the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits in three innings.

In game number two, the Cobras had a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh with two on and two outs.  Kinsey Parrish would then step to the plate and connect on a three run homer to take the 5-4 lead.  Unfortunately, Coker could not respond in the bottom of the seventh as Brevard went on to take the game and the series by a final score of 5-4.

Weatherford continued to find her rhythm in game number two, as she connected on two doubles and scored one run, while Katelyn Szupello and Bethany Sevek recorded one RBI each.

Logan Cox (1-5) would get the loss, after giving up five runs on nine hits in seven innings of work.

Coker will hit the road for their next competition, as they travel to Wingate for a SAC doubleheader on Tuesday (Mar. 8).  Game number one will start at 2:00 p.m., followed by game two at 4:00.
