Cobras Looking to Tame Tornados in SAC Showdown

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team welcomes the Brevard Tornados in to town on Saturday (April 5) for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

Offensively the Cobras are led by the hot bats of outfielders Sydney Weatherford and Katelyn Szupello. Weatherford, who brought home Coker softball's first ever SAC player of the week honors this past week, comes into the contest leading the team in nearly every offensive category. She leads the team in batting average at .357, hits with 35, RBIs with 35, doubles with eight and home runs with six. Her RBI, home run and triple totals are all top ten in the conference. Szupello is sporting a .353 batting average to go along with 24 RBIs and a team high four triples. The four triples are good enough for second best in the conference.

On the mound, the Navy and Yellow are led by senior Lauren Phillips who has an 8-8 record in 90 innings of work. She also has a team best 4.12 ERA.

The Tornados come to Hartsville with a 13-22 overall and 2-8 in conference record after splitting a doubleheader with Mars Hill. They are led by Casey Whitaker who is batting .343 with 28 RBIs and six homeruns. Brevard pitcher Jamie Hrobak leads the team with a 3.51 ERA and an 8-8 overall record.

Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Saleeby-Stokes softball field with game two slated to begin at 3 p.m. Live stats can be followed at www.cokercobras.com
