Coker's Weatherford Named SAC Softball Player of the Week

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College softball player Sydney Weatherford has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced today. Weatherford is the first Cobra softball player to receive a weekly award from the SAC.

Weatherford, an outfielder, had a monster week for Coker, hitting .769 with a 1.692 slugging percentage. She had 10 hits in 13 at-bats – including six extra-base hits – and 11 RBI. Her best performance of the week came on Wednesday (Mar. 26) against Queens University of Charlotte.  In the series, the senior crushed three homeruns including a grand slam.  She went 5-of-7 from the plate, with a double and seven RBI in two games.

On the season, Weatherford is batting .359 with a slugging percentage of .674, five homeruns and 32 RBI. Her RBI total and slugging percentage ranks her fifth and eighth, respectively, in the SAC statistical standings.

A four-year Cobra from Scranton, S.C., Weatherford is an education major with a concentration in elementary education. She is the daughter of Deanna and Joey Weatherford.
