Cobras and Railsplitters Split SAC Doubleheader

HARROGATE, TENN. – The Coker softball team split a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Lincoln Memorial on Saturday (Mar. 22), at Neely Field. 

LMU pushed two runs across the plate in game number one to take a quick 2-0 lead after the first inning.  Coker would respond with one run in the top of the second, but the Railsplitters extend their lead to 6-1 after two runs in the third, and two more in the fourth.  The Cobras would then close the gap to 6-4 by tacking on three runs in the fifth, but the score would be finalized after two scoreless innings for Coker.

Katelyn Szupello led the offense in game number one, after going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.  Sydney Weatherford and Ashlee Ellen also tabbed an RBI, with Ellen landing the teams only double of the game.  

Lauren Phillips (6-6) would be charged with the loss after going four innings, giving up six runs on nine hits.

Game number two featured a thrilling comeback from the Cobras.  After being down 2-0 in the bottom of the second, the Cobras shutout the Railsplitters for the remaining five innings and proceeded to score three runs in the seventh to take the game 3-2. 

Tayler Barcomb led the Cobras at the plate with two RBI and a double, while Ashley Gallman also added an RBI. 

Tabitha Allen (4-3) earned the win for Coker after pitching a complete game and giving up just two runs on six hits.

Coker will remain on the road for their next SAC competition, as they travel to Queens (N.C.) on Wednesday (Mar. 26).  Game number one will start at 2:00 p.m., followed by game two at 4:00.
