Cobras Welcome Indians to town for SAC Double-Header

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team will play host to the Catawba Indians in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Thursday (Mar. 20).

The Cobras come into the contest with a 12-11 record and a 1-1 in conference record which they will look to improve upon against the Indians. Offensively, the Navy and Yellow have been led by Katelyn Szupello, Sydney Weatherford and Ashlee Ellen. Szupello is batting .389 to go along with 19 RBIs and a team high four triples. Weatherford also has 19 RBIs as well as a .312 batting average. Ellen leads the team in RBIs with 20 and home runs with four to alongside her .310 batting average.

Lauren Phillips has been the ace of the Coker pitching staff this season sporting a 6-5 record in 12 starts. Phillips has a 4.02 ERA in 62.2 inning of work.

The Indians come to Hartsville with a 17-6 record and a perfect 2-0 conference record after sweeping Mars Hill over the weekend. Catawba is led offensively by Katherine Shumaker who has team highs in batting average at .393, hits with 22, home runs with three and RBIs at 20. On the mound they are led by Carley Tysinger whose season totals in wins and strikeouts are tops in the conference at 11 and 121. She is also second in the conference with a 0.70 ERA.
