Edinboro Takes Two From Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Edinboro University on Monday (Mar. 17).  With the loss the Cobras fall to 12-11 on the year.

It was a rough start for the Navy and Yellow in game number one, as the Fighting Scots scored 14 runs in the first inning followed by one run in the second and one run in the third.  Coker would then battle back to score four runs in the third, one run in the fourth and four more in the fifth, but Edinboro's lead was too large as they captured game one by a score of 18-9.

Katelyn Szupello and Logan Cox led the way for the Cobras at the plate, each going 3-for-4 from the plate.  Szupello had three RBI's with one run scored, while Cox had one RBI and one run scored.

Tabitha Allen (3-3) would be tabbed with the loss, after giving up three runs on three walks.

In game number two, Coker got off to a quick start after scoring three runs in the first inning.  Edinboro however answered with two runs in the second followed by five more runs in the fourth to make the score 7-2.  The Cobras would then close the gap in the bottom of the fourth by scoring two runs, but the Fighting Scots would add three more security runs to finalize the score at 10-5.  The game was called in the sixth inning due to inclement weather conditions.

Cox was a factor again for the Cobras in game number two, as she went 1-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.  Sydney Weatherford went 2-for-2 with three RBI's and one run scored.

Lauren Phillips (3-2) would be marked with the loss after pitching 3.2 innings giving up seven runs on 10 hits.

Coker will look to bounce back on Tuesday (Mar. 18) as they prepare to host Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.  Game number one will start at 2:00 p.m., followed by game number two at 4:00.
