Cobras Sweep Golden Bulls

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team swept the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday (Mar. 11).  With the wins, the Navy and Yellow improve to 11-8 on the year.

Game one was a tight contest that led all the way up to the bottom of the seventh.  With two out and a runner on second, Katelyn Szupello stepped to the plate with the score tied at 3-3.  She then located a fastball to right center field, to drive in the game-winning run with her second triple of the day.

Tabitha Allen (3-2) would get the nod and the win in game number one.  Allen pitched a complete game giving up only seven hits and waving seven batters.

The hot batting continued for the Cobras into game number two.  Coker proceeded to score four runs in the second inning, three in the third, and five in the fourth to quickly apply the five-inning rule and win the game 12-0.

Logan Cox and Ashley Gallman led the Cobras at the plate in game number two, as they each went 3-for-3.  Cox had a team high three runs scored, while Gallman knocked in two RBI's.

Lauren Phillips (6-4) headed the defense for Coker on the mound with six K's, while giving up just five hits.

Coker will hit the road this Saturday (Mar. 15) as they travel to face Carson-Newman in their first South Atlantic Conference game of the year.  Game number one will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00 p.m.
