Cobras and Crusaders to Square Off in Non-Conference Doubleheader

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team is set to take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday (Feb. 28) at Saleeby-Stokes softball field. Live coverage of the game will be available at www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras are coming off a split in their previous doubleheader against UNC Pembroke. The Braves took game one, 7-3, but Coker snagged game two with a 2-0 victory. Tayler Barcomb and Ashlee Ellen continue to lead the Cobras offensively. Barcomb is hitting .371 with six RBI, three doubles and eight runs, while Ellen sports a .343 average with four home runs and 12 RBI on the season.

The Crusaders are 4-13 overall after sweeping Erskine in a doubleheader on Wednesday. Dani Marietta's .308 batting average and two home runs lead Belmont Abbey offensively. Defensively, the Crusaders are led by Samantha Jacobs. In 45 innings she has thrown 51 strikeouts, gave up five home runs and tallied a 3.73 ERA.

Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the game two at 3 p.m. Tickets for the game will be available at the gate, $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for all Coker faculty, staff and students.
