Coker Softball Ready for Braves

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team will host the UNC Pembroke Braves in a non-conference double-header Saturday (Feb. 22) at the Saleeby-Stokes softball field.

In their last double-header, Columbia College defeated Coker 3-1 in the first game and 14-5 in the second.  Leading the Cobras offensively is Ashlee Ellen and Taylor Barcomb.  Ellen has only stuck out once this season and is hitting .414 at the plate with seven runs, four homeruns, and 12 RBI.  Barcomb has eight runs on the season, two home runs, five RBI, and is hitting .357.

Defensively, the Cobras are led by Lauren Phillips (2-3).  In 25 innings pitched, the right-hander has thrown 11 strikeouts and has a 3.00 ERA.

The Braves come to Coker with a doubleheader win against St. Andrews in their most recent competition. Leading Pembroke defensively is Selena Ashley (4-0). The junior has pitched 26 innings, throwing 27 strikeouts, and has a 0.80 ERA. Offensively, the Braves are led by Brea Hartley. In 26 at bats, Hartley has ten runs, three homeruns, three strikeouts, two stolen bases, and hits a .462.

The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the second at 3:00 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the gate, $5 for adults, $3 for students, and are free for all Coker students, faculty, and staff.
