Lander Sweeps Coker in Non Conference Doubleheader

GREENWOOD, S.C. –  The Coker softball team lost two games to Lander University on Sunday (Feb. 9) at Doug Spears Field.  With the sweep, Coker falls to 4-3 on the year.

The Cobras struck first in game one after Tayler Barcomb homered to left field.  Unfortunately for Coker, that would be their only run for the rest of the game.  Lander went on to score five runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to secure the win.

Tabitha Allen (1-1) would be tact with the loss after giving up seven runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Game number two was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning.  Lander had one runner on first and one out, when the runner on first was able to advance all the way to third on a throwing error.  Another error by the Cobra infield would then push the winning run across the board for Lander.

Lauren Phillips (3-2) would be marked with the loss.  The senior right-hander went 6.2 innings giving up three hits and one unearned run.

Coker will continue their road quest as they travel to face St. Andrews in a doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 15).  Game number one will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by game number two at 3:00.
