Coker Sweeps Final Day of Hampton Jordan Classic

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Coker softball team captured a three game sweep of St. Augustine's, Claflin, and Ohio Valley during the final day of the Hampton Jordan Classic on Saturday (Feb. 8).  With the three wins, the Cobras are now 4-1 to start their 2014 season.

Game one featured a 12-6 win over St. Augustine's for Coker.  Ashlee Ellen led the way for the Cobras at the plate, after going 3-for-4 including two homeruns.  Ellen collected five RBI's and scored three runs.  Tayler Barcomb also had a huge impact for the Navy and Yellow as she went 3-for-4 as well with a homer, 2 RBI's and a run scored.  Carley Bailey was not to be forgotten, as she went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with two doubles and two runs scored.

Lauren Phillips (2-1) earned the win in game one after pitching 1.1 innings with one strike out, allowing four hits and one run.

In game two Coker earned a 5-2 win over Claflin.  Ellen continued to be a pitchers terror at the plate as she went 3-for-4 again with another homer, two RBI's and two runs scored.  Stacy Burr went 2-for-4 from the batters box with two doubles, one RBI, and a run scored.  Ashley Gallman then went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Tabitha Allen (1-0) would get the win from the bump, after fanning seven batters. 

The hot bats continued in game number three, as Coker landed a 10-1 win over Ohio Valley in their final game of the day.  Barcomb went 2-for-4 from the plate with a double, RBI, and two runs scored.  Gallman and Sydney Weatherford each went 2-for-3, while Ellen and Burr both went 1-for-2.  Ellen drove in two RBI's and scored two runs while Burr smacked a double and scored one run.

Phillips (3-1) nabbed another win after going five innings with two strikeouts, allowing five hits.  

Coker will be right back at it again on Sunday (Feb. 9), as they travel to face Lander in a double-header.  Game one will be at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two and 3:00.
