Coker Softball Ranked Tenth in Preseason Poll

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team has been voted 10th in the South Atlantic Conference preseason poll, the league office announced today.

The Cobras finished last season 26-18. They fell to Mount Olive College in the Conference Carolinas tournament. Sydney Weatherford, who was a Conference Carolinas second team all-conference selection in 2013, is back for her senior season. Weatherford, a center fielder, batted .305, had 43 hits, scored 24 runs and drove in a team-high 37 runs to go along with six home runs. In the field, Weatherford had 72 putouts, five assists and one double play.  

Lenoir-Rhyne University took the top spot in the poll with 127 points and seven first-place votes. Anderson University was a close second with 114 points and three first-place votes. Catawba College and Carson Newman University came in tied for fourth. Each received a first-place vote as well.

The preseason poll is as follows: 1. Lenoir-Rhyne University; 2. Anderson University; 3. Wingate University; 4. Catawba College; 4. Carson-Newman University; 6. Tusculum College; 7. Lincoln Memorial University; 8. Mars Hill College; 9. Queens University of Charlotte; 10. Coker College; 11. Newberry College; 12. Brevard College.
