Poole Homers to Help Lead Cobras Past Fighting Scots

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team defeated Edinsboro University in a pair of non-conference games on Wednesday (Mar. 20) at Saleeby-Stokes Field.  With the win the Cobras improve to 18-12 on the year, and remain at 9-5 in league play.

Junior outfielder Sydney Weatherford got things started for Coker in game one, when she hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Sarah Rountree and put the Cobras up 1-0.

In the top of the second Edinboro tied the game at 1 after a solo homerun down the left field line.  However, Alex Cataldo was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the second with the bases loaded to draw in the go-ahead run.  Rountree would then double to right center to drive in two more runs and put Coker up 4-2.

The Fighting Scots battled back to tie the game at 4, with two runs in the third and one run in the sixth.

Then with one out and two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, Jaclin Poole connected on a pitch to left field to earn the walk-off and preserve a 7-4 win for the Cobras.

In game two, Coker took a quick 4-0 lead on Edinboro within the first three innings.  The Fighting Scots however would respond with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one run of the navy and yellow.  Coker was not intimidated however, and put together two shutout innings to lock in the 4-3 win.

Coker's next competition will come on the road when they travel to meet Erskine on Saturday (Mar. 23) in a Conference Carolinas double-header.  Game one is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 3:00 p.m.
