Cobras Split Twinbill with Chowan

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team split their non-conference doubleheader with the Chowan Hawks on Saturday. The Cobras won the first game of the twinbill, 8-0 in five innings, but lost the second game 9-7.

Becky Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (5-5) threw four scoreless innings to get the win in game one. She scattered eight hits and struck out three along with way.

In game two, Jordan Atkinson (Bishopville, S.C.) (1-5) was saddled with the loss. She gave up four runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Katelyn Szupello (Port Orange, Fla.) led the Cobras at the plate in game one. She was 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) and Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) drove in two runs each and scored a run, Rountree also had a double.

Bryant McLendon (Lake City, S.C.) was the offensive leader in game two, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and a run scored. Logan Cox (Georgetown, S.C.) was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.) had a double, an RBI and scored a run.

The Cobras will be back on the field on Sunday for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader against Lees-McRae. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Coker's Saleeby-Stokes Field.

McDonald's Player of the Game- Becky Dillon

Dillon earned a win in the circle throwing four scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
