Coker Softball Takes Two from Pfeiffer

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker softball team earned a pair of wins and a series sweep of Pfeiffer University on Wednesday. The Cobras improve to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the Conference Carolinas standings.

GAME ONE

Coker scored four unanswered runs in the first four innings and then used solid defense and pitching to hold off the Falcons for a 4-0 shutout victory.

The Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week, Katie Lee (Debray, Fla.), had a good outing earning her third win of the season with a complete game shutout, scattering seven hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Jaclin Poole (Clover, S.C.), Stacy Burr (Darlington, S.C.) and Gina Easler (Edgefield, S.C.) each drove in a run for the Cobras, while both Kentesha Jenkins (Darlington, S.C.) and Jennifer Sanborn (Beaufort, S.C.) had a hit with a run scored.

GAME TWO

Game two was a scoreless affair until the Cobras plated a run in the fifth inning. Pfeiffer took their first lead of the series with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but Coker quickly evened the game at two, with a run in the bottom half of the inning.

Burr gave the Cobras a 3-2 win by driving Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) home with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Burr finished the game with a pair of RBIs, while Rountree was 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Sydney Weatherford had a double with a run scored, and Sanborn drove in a run.

Logan Cox (Georgetown, S.C.) (4-1) was the winning pitcher for the Cobras. She went 6.1 innings allowing one run on six hits.

The Cobras will be back on the field on Thursday when they travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine College in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

McDonald's Player of the Game- Stacy Burr

Burr had three RBIs in Coker's two games, including the game-winner in game two.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
