Cobras and Crusaders Split Conference Doubleheader

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team opened Conference Carolina play on Sunday by splitting their doubleheader with Belmont Abbey. The Abbey won game one 8-1, but Coker picked up the 3-2 win in game two. The Cobras improve to 7-7 overall and 1-1 in conference after the day.

GAME ONE

The Crusaders took advantage of Coker errors in game one, scoring eight runs while allowing just one.

Katie Lee (Debary, Fla.) (1-1) took the loss on the mound. She allowed six runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Clarissa Suttle (Piedmont, S.C.) was the Cobras leading hitter with a pair of hits and a run scored. Gina Easler (Edgefield, S.C.) drove in Coker's lone run.

GAME TWO

Sydney Weatherford (Scranton, S.C.) had a double, a triple and drove in a run to lead the Cobras in game two. Bryant McLendon (Lake City, S.C.) also drove in a run and Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored.

The Cobras came from behind to take home the win after giving up a pair of runs to the Crusaders in the first inning.

Logan Cox (Georgetown, S.C.) (3-1) picked up her third win of the year. She started a little rocky, but settled into a groove allowing just two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Beck Dillon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) got the save with a scoreless and hitless inning of relief work.

The Cobras will return to the field on Wednesday when they will take on Conference Carolinas foe Barton College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Coker.

McDonald's Player of the Game- Logan Cox

Cox threw six innings allowing just two runs on seven hits in game two.

The McDonald's Player of the Game is presented by the Hartsville McDonald's and is given to the most outstanding performer during each Coker College home athletic event.
