Mullins Sets Coker 5k Record at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Brandon Mullins set the Coker College 5k record, and the Coker College men's cross country team started their season off on the right foot finishing first among DII teams at the Carolina Challenge. All six of Coker's runners finished in the top half of field, resulting in a combined score of 31, easily defeating squads from Benedict (56), Paine (66), and Claflin (72).

Mullins finished with a historic time of 15:59.8, narrowly defeating Jacob Chebii's previous record of 16:02 at the FMU Invitational during the 2015 season. Chebii had an impressive race himself, finishing third amongst DII runners with a time of 16:52.8.

Isaiah Gold, Frederick Scruggs, and Liam Anderson all finished in the top 10, helping the Cobras secure the victory.

Mullins now holds three of the top ten 5k times in Coker history. The senior from Cincinnati, Ohio will have his sights on Chebii's 8k record time of 25:46 when the Cobras travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina on September 15th for the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational.
