Brandon Ravelo and Joao Victor Santos Honored by Off the Block

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker College men's volleyball players Brandon Ravelo and Joao Victor Santos were both honored by Off the Block on Thursday (Apr. 11) for their efforts this season.

Ravelo, a freshman setter from Newnan, Georgia, was named the 2019 Independent Teams Freshman of the Year following a record-breaking inaugural campaign with the Cobras. Ravelo played in 20 matches and 76 sets this season as he set the single-season record for assists per game with 9.59. In total he dished out 729 assists which already slots him in at number in the Coker career record book. Along his many assits, Ravelo also led the squad with 28 service aces and finished second in digs with 94.

Santos, a senior from Brasilia, Brazil, was named to the 2019 All-Independent Team after earning Player of the Year honors following his junior year. He competed in 77 sets over 20 matches and ended the regular season in the nation's top 20 in kills per game with 3.61 kills per game while notching double-digit kills in all but three matches this season. During the season Santos set the record for career kills and also became the first men's volleyball player in Coker history to reach 1000 kills. 

The Cobras will close out the season at the IVA Tournament in Harrogate, Tennessee beginning Friday (Apr. 12).
