Santos Selected as Off the Block Independent Teams Player of the Week

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker men's volleyball opposite hitter Joao Victor Santos earned Off the Block Independent Teams Player of the Week for March 26-April 1 for his performances against Queens (N.C.) and Alderson Broaddus. This is the second Player of the Week honor of the season for Santos.

Santos led the team with 19 and 20 kills, respectively, in the two matches of the week. In the five set thriller against the Royals, he tacked on five service aces, 10 digs, and three block assists. At the Battlers, alongside his kills, Santos contributed an assist, four aces, three digs, and a block assist.

Individually in the Coker record books, Santos ranks third in career kills (766), second in aces (93), sixth in solo blocks (31), and fifth in block assists (101).

As of April 1 in national statistics, Santos holds third in aces per set (.57), 13th in kills per set (3.71), and fifth in points per set (4.72).

The Independent Teams Player of the Week recognizes the best player during the week from NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball teams that are competing without a conference affiliation. The four independent teams this season are Alderson Broaddus, Coker, Lincoln Memorial and Queens.

Off the Block determines the Independent Teams Player of the Week based on a variety of factors, including a player's individual performance and how a player's team fared during the week.
